I'm one of the people who hated lectures. Listening to a person talking for 90 minutes, usually with no visual aids and poor charisma, made me think about everything except the topic presented.
However, I was lucky enough to come across some academic teachers who durning those 90 minutes were able to make me think in a way that would seem impossible before.
One of those teachers had a course in Amercian Literature and Movies. The way she opened minds is still (and for a long time will be) an ultimate goal in my work with students.
Getting rid of prejudice, stereotypes and intelectual laziness (comfort?) if happened in my case, happened mostly thanks to her.
So, if you want to, forget all the bad things you think about popular culture, non-normative behaviour, Buffy the Vampire Slayer or whatever and simply enjoy one of the most beautiful love songs (in my opinion):

Hi:-)
OdpowiedzUsuńAn interesting post. I'm going to use it in our classroom as a trigger for reflection (for the other students). I do hope you don't mind :-)
By the way, I hate 90 min talking head leactures too. You students are in much better situation than we lectures. You may skip the lectures. We teachers are not allowed to do that. There's no justice in this world :-)
By the way, what do you think about this lecture http://klasserom.hinesna.no/mod/resource/view.php?id=19049
I placed it in our classroom (it’s one of my favourites)
